A Legacy of Peace

When ICS major AJ Block walked into class at Columbia Bible College 2 years ago, he had no idea that what he was about to hear would change the direction of his future. Christina and Darnell Barkman (CBC alum, 2010), a couple from Abbotsford, BC, were guest speakers in the class. They shared about their involvement in Peacebuilders Community, a Mennonite peace and reconciliation consulting group in the Philippines. The theology behind their words so inspired and resonated with AJ that today, he is carrying out his ICS internship with the same organization in the Philippines! Reflecting on the process of the past 2 years, AJ states:

“Looking back, the one thing that stands out is how I’ve been guided and assisted by God to get to this point, throughout periods where I thought my internship was in jeopardy or when I felt ill-prepared or ill-equipped (or just unwilling) for what can be seen as a daunting task. Yes, He has brought me here, and remains the only thing to sooth my unsteady mix of fear and excitement.”
