This year the Alumni Weekend brought a new, expanded approach to engaging Alumni of all ages and interests with a weekend full of activities.
Friday night kicked off with an Alumni Chapel featuring a panel of three speakers made up by faculty emeritus Ron Voth (testing 1..2..3?), Becca Orozco, and Jon Wiebe. Life after Columbia is rarely what we expect it to be, yet our panel was able to provide a new perspective on how Columbia did equip them for the life they live now. Through a combination of humour and vulnerability, Alumni present listened intently as the panel shared their expectations, challenges, and unexpected blessings which have taken place since leaving Columbia. It was powerful to unite our voices in musical worship led by Jon and Danie Harris, all coming from different journeys but worshipping the same God. Congratulations to our door prize winners Tyson Kraul, Tony Lee, and Kara TeVelde!
Saturday offered the opportunity for Alumni to partake in a Metzger Tour (a newly established museum in the basement of the Resource Center), Picnic Lunch with tons of field games, and a Campus Tour for those who have not walked our campus for years.
The excitement continued with an afternoon and evening full of Bearcat games where Alumni returned to the court once again to take on the current Bearcat teams.
As kids shook their newly-created noise makers and fans cheered loudly it became a true witness to the Athletic Department’s motto that, “We are [all] Bearcats.”
Alumni athletes came from near and far to play, with a special shout out to Drew Harder and Rebecca Andres who travelled all the way from Saskatchewan. We would also like to recognize returning Alumni athletes Patrick Wong, Grayden Krause, Phil Wiens, Cheyla Reader, Laura Martens, Kyle Boon, and Melissa-Faye Paul who have played consecutive years for the Alumni Weekend.
Congratulations to our Saturday Draw prize winner Matt Janzen, and our Paper Airplane fan game winner Mandy Van Delden for scoring sweet prizes!
A heartfelt thank you for all who came out to participate in this weekend. We pray you felt connected and rooted once again in a place which was transformational in creating you into who you are today.
